Annual
Retune Fund Raiser
Hello Acoustic Clubbers Last time we were delighted to close 2024
with a superb Double Headline Showcase as a fundraiser for our favourite charity
Retune. We were made so welcome by Nik and his team
at the Belgian Brewer and the whole evening was an outstanding success – not
only from the quality of the performers but also that essential ambiance and
feeling of good will that passed amongst everyone who was at this signature
evening. The evening was opened by Bill Tarran
who celebrated the life and songs of Colin Scot who passed away 24 years ago
with four of his classic songs. |
|
THE
RETUNERS Tom Ryder
and Kimberley Stoker The first of our headline acts was a
remarkable collaboration between Tom Ryder and Kimberley Stoker as “The
Retuners”. Both players have stonking reputations as
solo performers which they have built with so many classy performances over
the past few years. However it cannot be denied that Tom is well known as a
Serial Collaborator and Kim has a long list of those tremendous but all to
fleeting collaborations that have peppered her musical history. Tom and Kim are an inspired collaboration
which was founded at the Retune Specials of the past, where the Retuneers
form a pivotal role in demonstrating just how fulfilling playing and merging
musical styles and genres can be for players and audiences alike. It is fair to say that our expectations of
this latest version of The Retuners was very high – how could it be anything
else with players of such quality? The reality was that Tom and Kim gave us an
eclectic 45 minutes of two musicians whose talents blend magically and voices
blend with an ease that produces music and songs that was unforgettable. BLUES INC |
Blues Inc are a moving feast with the band
remaining as a 5 piece settled combo having added Martyn on lead guitar and
Nina on drums over the past couple of years. Add these performers to the
three piece Blues Inc of Drew, Andy and Graeme you have a band for all ages. Naturally you will expect the blues from
Blues Inc but over the last couple of years they have expanded their
repertoire to include so many themes and genres that they can give a
fantastic set with “the 12 Bar Blues in A” now being a part of the setlist rather
than the fundamental basis. Together Blues Inc are bigger and better
than the sum of the parts and it is always such a pleasure to welcome back
the joint founder of the Club Drew Bonnington back to the stage he helped
create and that has launched and supported so many players over the past 23
years. Many thanks to our wonderful performers all
of whom delivered on of the best evenings of LIVE music we have heard for a
long time. The packed audience that insisted on becoming part of the music
joining in where appropriate with their love and musical adaptions. Community
Music is at its best when the audience participate and every player will
attest to that the right audience is the key to a fantastic night. Finally, a big thank you to Chris Stemp for
sorting out and providing the mixing set up for the Sound for the evening. It
is always a better sound set up when you have a real pro doing the job.
THANKS CHRIS. Our objective was to raise money and when
the admission payments as well as the collection box we raised a fantastic
total of £515.00 and this has been sent to Retune to help them continue
fantastic work with young people. On behalf of Retune may we thank everyone
who supported the evening and gave so willingly. Many thanks to Nik and his Staff at the
Belgian Brewer for their continued support and of course their fantastic
selection of beers and pizza!!! |

RHYS WILSON
Hello Acoustic Clubbers Last time we were delighted to welcome back
for his maiden headline showcase Rhys Wilson. Rhys has been a regular visitor and player
at our 6x4 evenings and his band Thursdays Band were booked to perform the
headline spot. Unfortunately an integral member of the band, Mark Gamon,
recently suffered a motor accident and is unfortunately out of commission on
the guitar playing front. Mark is a long time supporter of the Club
and we wish him a speedy recovery from his injuries and we look forward to
the repeat gig next year. |
|
RHYS
WILSON Rhys, a man for whom no challenge is too onerous,
agreed to come along delight us with a headline set. As a wonderful treat we
were delighted to see him showcasing his latest album “Shipwrecks and Lovers”. Rhys has produced a goodly number of albums
over the years but this one is a bit special. Which is just about a perfect
description of his set! He has a wonderful line in writing and
produces songs that reflect his life (sometimes), his flights of fancy
(occasionally) and the product of his imagination in looking at situations
and producing an explanatory narrative around the known events (quite often). He accompanies himself wonderfully on
guitar in all sorts of styles and produces a wonderful sound. All in all, it was a cracking climax to the
evening and left the packed audience wanting more. Earlier we had support slots from Host and
MC Bill Tarran, Richard Holder, Stuart Nicholson, Emily Piercy, Ray
Hollingworth, Vince Taylor and Colin Frid. Many thanks to our wonderful performers all
of whom delivered on of the best evenings of LIVE music we have heard for a
long time. The packed audience will attest to that. Many thanks to the Staff and volunteers at
the South Mill Arts Centre for their continued support. |
THURSDAY
21st NOVEMBER 2024
Ladies
Night
Hello Acoustic Clubbers Last time we were delighted to welcome back
four performers for our first Ladies Night in a while. The concept of the
evening was to showcase the talents of four female performers and we welcomed
back the local legends Chloe Turner, Trina Reed, Alice Walker and Jess Brett. |
|
|
CHLOE
TURNER Chloe is a performer we have been in awe of
over the past few years. She has an amazing repertoire of so many differing genres
it is sometime difficult to keep up. However last time she showcased her
writing talents as well as her exemplary guitarwork and beautiful vocals.
Chole is well known for working with some of the very best musicians around,
but her set was just magnificent. |
|
TRINA
REED Trina is a prodigious songwriter who has
delighted us for many years. She first appeared as a young player who has a
turn of phrase that invites you to listen further. Her set was a delightful mixture of old and
new songs that commanded absolute attention, her songs are an extension of
her personality and are just beautiful compositions. A masterful set! |
|
ALICE
WALKER Alice has been performing at the Acoustic
Club for many years. Her original music defines her as a “Very precious One
Off” who we do not see or hear often enough. Her almost dismissive approach
in introducing her songs is the complete opposite of the depth and feeling
she brings to her music. Alice does not disappoint and her set was a tour de
force. |
|
JESS
BRETT Jess needs no introduction to those of us
who remember her history as the person who ran the Acoustic Club after Annie
and Keef stepped down in 2013. Jess continued the foundation that Keef and
Annie laid down in mixing fantastic headliners with encouraging both new and
experienced players. Over the past couple of years Jess has
moved into a new mode. She has been encouraged to develop her songwriting and
her performance has moved to a much higher level. Jess has always had a
delightful voice that can change depending on the genre she is delivering.
She can range from hard blues to quiet and intimate acoustic with ease. As a
professional music teacher her accompaniment has always been precise and
compelling but it is the delivery of the “New” Jess that allows free range to
the combination of all her musicianship and musicality that makes her an
absolute star. Her set was littered with brilliance and had
the packed audience in the palm of her hand. |
Many thanks to our wonderful performers all
of whom delivered on of the best evenings of LIVE music we have heard for a
long time. The packed audience will attest to that. Many thanks to the Staff and volunteers at
the South Mill Arts Centre for their continued support and especially Ali the
Sound Technician who made all our performers sound the very best. |

HUNTER
MUSKETT |
|
Last time we were delighted to welcome the
fantastic Hunter Muskett to the Acoustic Club for their maiden gig. For sure
we have been delighted to welcome Terry Hiscock as a solo player and Terry
and Roger Trevitt as a duo but this is the first time that we have been able
to feature the full works with the master of electric guitar Doug Morter Hunter Muskett as a full band are only
available when Doug makes the trip over from Denmark where he lives, so gigs
are at a bit of a premium. As a band, few have the history that Hunter
Muskett have with original songs going back to the late 1960’s. However they
are as relevant today as they were when they were fresh faced young players. Their set was, as ever, full of sound
writing, crafted musicianship and delightful harmonies. They featured many
tracks drawn from their latest album “Roll On” which proved popular with the
audience if sales are anything to go by. Many thanks to Roger, Rog and Doug for an
epic set that was a delight as well as one that will linger long in the
memory |
Support was supplied by Bill Tarran Host,
M/C and Soundman, Tony Clarke, venturing out as a solo artist and the
incomparable Pat Crilly and Greg Camburn. |
Many thanks to Nik and the staff of the
Belgian Brewer who provided their usual welcome smiles and fantastic Belgian
Beers. |
THURSDAY
24th OCTOBER 2024
6 Acts – 4
Songs
|
|
Richard Pink I once described Cider at Yours, Richards
brilliant duo, as my favourite local band and they still are. This time he
was flying solo playing a selection of his own songs in his own space. You
can see why he is popular because he always performs with passion and
panache. Bringing not only your own fan club, but also your singing partner
is brave, but the set was well received not only by the fan club but the
whole audience. |
||
|
Crayon Angels Crayon Angels are a band who can be relied
upon to produce great music – be it original songs or covers that they choose
as reflective of their kind of music. This time we were delighted to hear
their latest sound configuration with Del playing his distinctive lead guitar
giving a more acoustic feel to their set. As ever a wonderful combination of
song choices well delivered and highly appreciated. |
|
||
|
|
Mike Excel Mike has a long list of past experiences,
but the conscience he has reflects in his songs, which always hit the mark
and, if you are in his sights, hard hitting. His writing is poetry in music and delivers
them with a smile on his face and joy in his heart. As ever, a set that
educates and illuminates in equal measure. |
||
Colin Frid As ever, Colin brought his life of
musicality and performance to the stage. He has a back catalogue of such
variety and depth it is frightening. Sometimes he drifts into the heyday of
the 1970’s but this time he was incredibly relevant to today with a choice
from his repertoire that was both entertaining and delightful. |
|
|||
|
|
Elliott Porter Over the years Elliott has been a performer
we have loved to see and hear. His originality is legion. The songs he writes
are clearly visible as he wears his heart very firmly on his sleeve and all
his songs, especially his new ones are positive affirmation of his singular
talent. This time he gave us a an insight into his new material and his plans
for the coming year. His songs remain as strong as his performance is full of
commitment to excellence. |
||
|
Terry Hiscock. Playing the first of a two week run, Terry
gave us a perfect taste of what will come this week last week. Terry is a
fine professional musician who gauges his performance to suit the audience.
His song writing is up there with the very best and his performance stirs the
soul. |

DOUBLE
HEADER SHOWCASE
Featuring
JO ASH and
LUKE JAMES WILLIAMS
Hello Acoustic Clubbers There are a number of things we are proud
of at the Acoustic Club, but what we are most pleased with is the ongoing
ability to bring different styles of music in one evening. Last time was no exception with a stunning
double headline showcase featuring Jo Ash and Luke James Williams. Both are
songwriters of some well-deserved repute, both have the soul of the mythical
minstrel who has but one aim – to entertain and both are just downright good
at it. |
|
JO ASH accompanied by Mike
Wheatley are a natural combination. Jo’s songs, musical accompaniment and
outstanding vocal are a joy to listen to. She is a prolific songwriter and
her choice of subject are both varies and highly entertaining. When you add
the counterpoint of Mike’s guitar work you have a winning combination. Jo performed a complete set, topped full
with songs both new and old which conveyed the uniqueness of her writing. The
audience greeted every song with that essential quality of actually listening
to the music and then applauding the way she and Mike deliver. An outstanding
set of original music wonderfully delivered. |
|
LUKE JAMES WILLIAMS is a rapidly
developing talent that we have been blessed with seeing mature over the past
couple of years. He is in the classic genre of guitar playing
singer/songwriter and has certainly found his own space for his music. It is
also fair to say that lots of people agree. Both his music and writing have
developed to a point where he is a very high cut above the normal. His most
recent Album “Our Blood Is Red” is one of the standout offerings that has
been released over the past couple of years. Luke is no stranger to the Club over the
recent years and every time he plays he brings a newness to his performance
that is so welcomed by audiences. This time he brought us songs from his next
album which build on the high standard of his past work. |
Due to the double headline we had three
supporting players with the welcome return to the Acoustic Club of virtuoso
harp player Harmonica Mike, the popular Stuart Nicholson and local favourite
Jo Clack supporting our two headliners |
Many thanks to all our players, the staff
and volunteers at the SMA who make us so welcome |
AT THE BELGIAN BREWER
6 Acts 4 Songs
Last time we were
delighted to be back at the Belgian Brewer for 6 Acts in one evening. The Function Room
at the Brewer is a lovely musical space and we are always made so welcome by
Nick and his team and last time was no different. We were delighted
to welcome 6 varied and distinctive acts who combined to make a wonderful
evening of Live Music |
|
One After 909 Father and Son duo
Colin and James Frid are always crowd pleasers and revel in that reputation.
Colin has a distinctive voice and James is one of the stand out acoustic
guitarists around. Their rendition of Eleanor Ribgy will stay long in the
memory. As ever an accomplished set |
|
|
Rhys Wilson Rhys is a long term
favourite with the AC audience. He is a compulsive songwriter as well as a
remarkable guitarist and his sets combine these two major attributes
remarkably. He performed with
equal vim and vigour on both 12 String and 6 String guitar and treated us to
a remarkable version of Wonderwall as a tribute to Ticketmaster and their unstoppable
greed in selling Oasis Tickets. |
Ryan Thwaits Ryan Thwait has
been MIA for a little while, but he has a reason for this. He has been
concentrating on recording and completing his latest release ’Here With
You’ and he reliably informs us it can be bootlegged from almost anywhere! His performance was
typically Ryan and filled with new songs and he proves again he is a
performer we should listen to. |
|
|
Trina Read Trina is developing
into a songwriter and performer who will very shortly gain the attention of some
of those “Men in Suits” who take songs and put them into the public spotlight. Her output of
material is prodigious and stunning, every song has meaning and purpose. A
tremendous set and we hope she remembers us when those big money moguls take
her under their wing and make her famous! |
Peter Crossley Peter is a multi
faceted musician who brings a joy to all who listen to his songs. He is a
talented finger style guitarist but when you combine the words of a poet with
his prodigious musical talent you end up with songs you want to hear again
and again. |
|
|
Richard Stubbs Richard is one of
the driving forces of Runaway Jukebox, Stubsie proved that he is a gifted
singer songwriter in his own right and we had the opportunity to hear what he
wants and likes. Always refreshing and one of those players you will want to
hear again and again. |
Many thanks to Nik
and the Staff at the Belgian Brewer for making us so welcome and introducing
many of the audience to his fine selection of Belgian Beers |
CONCERT SHOWCASE
Featuring
THE EXILE CLUB ALBUM LAUNCH
|
Chained To Ruins & Rust |
Hello Acoustic
Clubbers Last time was a
series of firsts for The Acoustic Club. It’s fair to say we have been with
The Exile Club over the last couple of years. We have watched their
development from a collection of musicians who instantly bonded into a real
musical force. Their collective talents merge into something bigger and
better than the sum of the parts. The driving force of the band is Joe Hazell
and gazing backwards for a minute we have seen his development as both a man
and a musician and watched in awe. When Joe came to us
with his newest musical venture we were delighted to welcome him and his band
The Exile Club to the Club and offer our help in providing the stage that
they so obviously deserved. Of course, some of our motivation was selfish,
when offered the opportunity to help launch such a strong collective musical
talent, which music venue would not want to be the “The Place Where They
Started Out”! The Exile Club was
made up of five musicians who were at a bit of a loose end. Joe Hazell
(guitar, vocals and song writing) and Neil Findlay (drums) had just
finished a stint with Curse of Lono, Abi Middleton was singing and
teaching, Daisy Pepper was session working and occasional gigs on bass
and Callum Drinkwater was gigging, depping, recording and showing what
a talent on keyboards he is. |
The Exile Club Tom Poutney, Daisy Pepper, Neil Findlay, Joe Hazell and Abi
Middleton |
Move forward just 2
years, with many hours of writing, rehearsing and performing, Joe let us know
that their debut album was progressing and the launch was planned for
September 2024. All the signs were encouraging
as the early tracks released as a series of singles indicated that they had
that something that marks a band out from the rest. It cannot be denied that Joe
writes some cracking songs – great and excitingly varied melodies and
meaningful words bound together with that necessary style that distinguishes them
from the others but it is the delivery of the songs that counts. In the build up to
the launch a small hiccup occurred that was a change of line up in the band.
From the formation of the band an essential ingredient was the contribution
of keyboard player Callum Drinkwater. Lives change and Callum has recently
relocated to Scotland which makes performing in a southern based band a tad
challenging. After the usual chat amongst those in the know, Joe was directed
towards Tom Poutney. Tom is a serious musical student who has an
exceptional talent for keyboards. One very quick introduction to the
repertoire of The Exile Club and Tom was installed as the keyboard section of
the band. So back to a 5
piece and ready to rock!! All were delivered and
we waited for Launch Day to arrive. Then came the first
of a series surprises. The plan was to hold the launch at the South Mill Arts
Centre in the bar area. This is a fantastic space for music. A comfortable
bar area with plenty of seats, comfortable sofas around the perimeter and a
sound system that allows everyone to hear without being overwhelmed. The
audience is very close to the performers and a real sense of intimacy
pervades the room. However, there is a
price to pay for popularity. On the Monday before the launch, we were told
that we were fast approaching the safe limit for the bar area. The solution
was simple as far as we were concerned, move into the main auditorium. Well
simple for the promoter, but a huge shock to the Band. Not only is the
Auditorium a huge space with a full size stage and sound system to match but
“that stage” has some history. The list of bands who have performed from the
early 1960’s onwards is legion. Cream, Led Zeppelin, The Who and dozens of bands
and artists have made the trip from London into the provinces and gone on to stun
the world – all from the stage of what was then called The Rhodes Centre. It
has been a colossus of a venue for 60 odd years. Joe expressed his
concerns to Geoff – “That stage and the size of the room they are huge. Would
it overwhelm the audience as it will be a tall order fill the room” he asked.
Geoff’s gentle reassurance helped (he had seen the advance tickets sales) but
it would be necessary for the band to reset their mindset for the gig. No
longer a small and an almost discrete gig. 90 minutes playing to close
friends and families, this was now growing like topsy in significance, not
only to the band but to the local music scene and beyond. By 7.00pm and
during sound check, the bar area was filling. The anticipation was palpable.
Friends and family of the band chatted together with their anticipation for
the evening rising. “Names” from the local music scene had arrived and joined
their fellow players in earnest discussion about what was about to be. There
was an air of expectation that could almost be tasted. Doors opened and immediately
the rush to get the best seats began, albeit in a highly civilised manner,
but a rush none the less. At 7.58 introductions began to nothing less than a
full house with around 90 in the main body of the hall. The choice of
support act was deliberate and perhaps inevitable. Many years ago, when Joe
began his musical journey, he was aided and abetted by one man, his singing
partner, playing partner and as close to a brother as two men can get without
blood ties, Tom Ryder. Tom’s musical
journey has run parallel to Joes over the years. They first played the
Acoustic Club at 13 under the guidance and with the encouragement of Keef and
Annie. They developed into the Kazans and Koasis as well numerous outings as
Ryder and Hazell building a reputation of being much sought after performers
and collaborators. |
|
As the years have
passed Tom has developed into the all around performer we saw last time. His
song writing is founded on his experience of life with all its ups and down,
his guitar playing has progressed to the point where he is one hell of an
acoustic guitarist with that innate ability to construct delightful and
almost hypnotic rifts that beautifully underpin his carefully crafted words.
His voice is the key part of his performance. He has a vocal range which is
impressive from a mid-range timbre that causes the hairs to rise on the back
of the listeners neck to that higher range which is both effortless and
soaring. Supporting Tom in
his performance was saxophone and all things that need blowing maestro Greg
Camburn. Greg demonstrates the virtuosity that comes from years of
experience. This allows him the freedom to play when the performance demands
and to equally allow the singer the space to deliver the song unhindered. His
reason d’etre is to enhance the music not dominate it. Together they
performed to a level that is rarely achieved. It would be a fair
assessment to say that the packed audience will be eager for more music from
Tom’s latest musical offering, The Tom Ryder Trio whose next outing is the
Retune Evening at the South Mill Arts Centre on 24th September. |
|
By the end of the
superb support set by Tom Ryder and Greg Camburn the balcony was half full
with the audience ready to rock. The first set by The Exile Club started with
a little natural hesitation and built quickly to a confident finale. A short
break for beer and we were soon back on the road. By the end of the gig the
auditorium was bouncing, the balcony dancing to the good old fashioned music
people had come to hear. The set list was
unsurprisingly the album, with a few extras thrown in. The first step started
tentatively, but as the set progressed the confidence level grew as the
famous five became accustomed to both the stage and the venue. The set
finished on a high, the audience moved towards the merchandise stand as well
as the bar! 15 minutes later
the second set started, no first time nerves and the band progressed
authoritatively through the set adding one cover that has been a hall mark of
their live performances “Angel from Montgomery” cementing their Americana
credentials firmly. Being joined by Tom Ryder and Greg Camburn for a rousing
anthem, all too soon it was the last song. Vocalist and MC for the evening
Abi taught everyone how to both sing and get into expressive dance with a
fantastic rendition of their signature single “Some Of That Sweet Tea”. Long and generous
applause followed and the obligatory encore ensured the audience went home
with happy memories of a brilliant launch of a remarkable debut album with
signed copies as a keepsake worthy of the occasion. |
Many thanks must go
to the Staff and Volunteers of the SMAC. They helped enormously get this
launch. The staff behind the bar, the ticket sellers, the ushers within the
auditorium but especially to Jayden the Sound Man. He is unflappable and gave
us the music as it was intended by the artists. Clean and clear with a
balance between music and vocals that was a treat for the audience. |
|
Featuring
JONO and ABELA
BROTHERS
Last time we were delighted to welcome two
Headline Acts from diametrically opposite ends of the musical spectrum. We
were also delighted to welcome a roster of supporting players who were all
very new and young players which is always a delight to hear new young talent |
|
JONO are a huge part of the bedrock of the
local music scene and are one of the longest lasting Bands around. There is a
very good reason for that longevity – they are damned good at what they do.
Which is acoustic soft rock, americana and acoustic hard rock. Mike Johnstone
has one of those voices that really represents the hey day of soft and hard
rock. Kris Ambrose is a stunning guitarist and provided his usual superlative
backing vocals as well stunning lead guitarwork. Cormac O’Prey is a quiet man
who stands at the back of the stage and lays down an irrepressible back beat.
With Ed Johnstone away, the band were delighted to welcome the drummer form
the Lolli-B Band to add a full kit percussion vibe. |
|
The Abela Brothers a a musical treat. They
are writers performers and all-around musical talents that have a stunning
ability to produce some of the finest original songs as well as the occasional
cover and produce a unique and compelling musical set. Having taken a bit of a sabbatical from
performing over the past couple of years, it was a delight to welcome them
back to the Acoustic Club after a break of quite a few years. During that
time they have developed a talent for producing and writing principally for
other artists but their welcome return was a triumph. Their close harmonies
and exquisite melodies are the product of talent, hard work and brilliance. |
We were joined by a limited number of
support artists including a welcome return of Max Lavergne and first timers Michael
Bennett and Emily Piercy. Many thanks to all our players, the staff
and volunteers at the SMA who make us so welcome |
THURSDAY
15th AUGUST 2024
7 Acts 4
Songs
Back again after Bish Bash Acoustic over
the long hot weekend to a great evening of music at the South Mill Arts. To a
packed audience, we were delighted to welcome some old friends back to the
stage. |
|
With Bill away in a very sunny Hungary our
host and M/C for the evening was the incomparable Greg Camburn who has so
often played and helped with keeping the Club on the straight and narrow as
well as his involvement with the excellent Retune project that does so much
good in helping youngsters find space and peace through music. |
|
Martin Day Martin is a proud songwriter. This time he performed
two up beat songs and two slower, more reflective ones as well. His songs
have undoubted energy and a pleasure to listen to. |
|
|
Troi Another gifted songwriter who has a
wonderful delivery as well as an engaging personality, that comes through
with every performance. |
Bill Johnson Bill is a highly experienced performer with
a huge repertoire of songs. This time he chose a set of lesser known songs
that really engaged with the audience. A man who knows his audience and
continues to keep them entertained. |
|
|
Conor Andrews About 10 years ago Conor was a regular
performer, but since his last performance he has worked in so many musical
genres and setups gaining confidence and experience. He returned the Acoustic
Club to give us a set of originals and a cover. With his strong voice and
great guitar work he was a hit for his home town crowd. |
Steve Ingrey Steve is the master of a very particular
sub set within the Blues. His finger picking and claw hammer style coupled
with his choice of traditional blues makes him a must watch feature on the
music scene, and he delivered, as ever, a cracking set. |
|
|
The Archduke Tom has spent many years refining and
honing his musical talents, of which there are many. He is a true original
songwriter with the depth of personality to produce thought provoking and
highly listenable songs. His performance of songs from his latest planned
release proves that he is still at the very top of his game. |
Wild Roses Annatt & Will are distinctive and highly
professional duo. They have a diverse musical background which combines to produce
wonderful and distinctive songs. Will’s guitar work is a joy and Annatt voice
one of the very best. |
|
Many thanks to Greg for Hosting and to the
staff of the SMAC for their continued great work. |
THURSDAY
1st AUGUST 2024
DOUBLE
HEADINE SHOWCASE
Featuring
ROMY
GENSALE and
KIMBEREY
STOKER
We were delighted to feature two wonderful
performers for our Double Headline Showcase Night. Last time we brought two opposite
performers, but linked by that thread of being fantastic players. One, a
prolific songwriter and performer who has proved her absolute brilliance as
one of the most listenable players around and the other, with one of the most
distinctive and enthralling voices who is a brilliant interpreter of classics
as well as modern. |
|
Romy Gensale brought her
reputation as one of the most sought after performers on the current music
scene. To list her achievements would be a job that would take forever as she
remains one of the busiest people around. Her set was top full with her
brilliant songs that made the audience sat in rapt attention. She writes from
her life and her experience and has that conversational style that engages
the audience as she introduces each song. Her playing suits her style and the
set passed in the blink of an eye. Thanks Romy. |
|
The second side of our double header was
the wonderful Kimberley Stoker. Having
taken a couple of years off from playing as she concentrated on her young
family, Kim has returned with a stronger and more diverse approach to her
music. Her voice is the most appeared a few years ago as a fresh faced player
with remarkable keyboard skills and a voice that literally tears at your
heart. Since then, her performances have been limited by circumstance as well
as just living her life. We were delighted that we were able to convince her
to play. Kimberley not only plays the blues, but
soul and R&B as well she complements the performance with her take on
almost any genre that takes her fancy. Her performance is a complete
experience. |
Many thanks to our supporting players Bill Tarran, Richard
Holder and Emilia Payne Smith. Many thanks to the staff and volunteers from the SMAC for
their usual dedication to their jobs. They make the evening run so smoothly. |

Sheri
Kershaw Band Opening
our evening was a much anticipated return to the stage of the Sheri Kershaw
Band. It
is great to welcome Sheri and the Band back because she has been suffering
with a very painful arm problem, so it is a real treat to be able to hear
her. It is sometimes easy to forget just how much a fixture Sheri has been on
the local music scene and how important her influence is. The Band switches
from original to covers with an ease that only comes from excellence. Martins
lead guitar and Phils bass provide a platform that Sheri excels in. What a
way to start the evening! |
|
|
|
Chris
Rivet Due
to a serious, possibly life threatening illness (probably man flu according
to Chris) Richard was MIA, so Chris took to the stage on his own and treated
us to what can only be described as a typical Riv Set. Chris has an ear for
lesser known songs from sometime less well known Top 20 bands, but such is
his talent, he always surprises and delights us with a classic “One Man with
a guitar and voice” set. He has one of those instantly likeable voices and
unfairly disparages his guitar playing, but in truth he is a wonderful
performer and delivered a smashing set. Thanks again mate. |
|
Paul
Booth Trio Since
this highly entertaining and seriously good trio first took to the Acoustic
Club stage just over a year ago, they have been pestered (mainly by Bill) for
a more catchy and relevant name. Well after threatening they will become
P.S.V in all future listings, they have now relented are now to be known as
the Paul Booth Trio. Which
takes nothing away from the fact that they are 3 musicians who blend
seamlessly and produce a sum greater than the three parts. Paul is the
powerhouse providing the songs and interpretation and Verna the vocal counterpoint.
Si is not only a cracking bassist but has also ambitions to play lead guitar,
which he does brilliantly on his bass. All in all, one of the best 3 pieces
around! |
|
|
|
Rhys
Wilson Rhys
is always a welcome visitor to the Acoustic Club. A well established songwriter
and the best purveyor of “Dad” jokes imaginable, he has a history of
entertaining. However, he has a habit of finding those songs he likes from
other sources and performs them from his perspective. He is, like many, a
real fan of the much-missed Gordon Lightfoot, who made such an impression
back in the very early days of singer songwriters. As a template you will
struggle to find better. Rhys’s originals have a real touch of Lightfoot
about many of them and that is to be treasured. As ever, a subtle and
engaging performance from one of the best around. |
|
Mike
Johnson Mike
is better known at the Club for his leading role within JONO, his 4 piece
soft rock combo. However as a solo performer he is just as prolific. Everyone
who knows Mike, understands he is a perfectionist. This is reflected in his
music and whilst the songs he plays are invariably exactly what you would
expect, his delivery is all his own. Every song is crafted to reflect the
meaning of the original but performed one voice, one guitar. A
ever his set was brilliant but his version of the Jagger/Richards song Angie
bears comparison with any!! |
|
|
|
|
|
|
Sandy
Mclelland Sandy
has spent a lifetime honing his songs, tunes and performance and having heard
him play in the past was a fitting end to a terrific evening of live music.
He demonstrated his relaxed and easy-going approach to his music and then
demonstrated just how damn good he is (accompanied by his wife of vocals and
percussion). His songs were a mixture of his past experience and sometimes
touched with a hint of whimsey. A fantastic set no doubt. |
|
|
|
|
Many, many thanks to Jayden for his
brilliant sound. Every single player commented that they wish they could take
him to every gig. Many thanks to the staff and volunteers
from the SMAC who make our exceptional audience so welcome. |

TENNESSEE
TWIN
Last time at the SMAC we were delighted to
welcome back TENNESSEE TWIN to the stage to give us a great set of
authentic Americana/New Country. We were also treated to a combined set from Vic
Lennard and Paul Simmonds who decided that by combining their talent
would result in a fantastic prelude to our Headline Showcase. |
|
As a Headline Showcase Tennessee Twin
have few equals. Victoria and Geoff are one of the reasons that live music
will always be relevant. They write songs and perform those songs with a
clarity of vocal performance with a musical background which is just a
perfect counterpoint. They are the epitome of Americana/New Country. The packed audience were entranced by not
only the performance but also the narrative of how the songs came from an
idea into the complete song. They are engaging performers, who have
lives outside of music and these influences guide their music. Geoff and Victoria gave us full 45 minutes
of their music to the absolute delight of the audience, which was packed to
the rafters. Earlier we had two regular support spots
and one “Super support” spot. Many thanks to Stuart Nicholson and John
and Danny McCarthy for brilliant spots including a fantastic Beatles
Medley. However, the highlight was the surprise combination of Vic Lennard
and Paul Simmonds. We had them down to do 4 songs each but they decided
that they would like to share the stage and spread a little combined music. Once you get to know a little about them,
the duo was not that much of a surprise. They have known each other for 35
odd years with Vic producing an album for Paul many years ago. Quite frankly
their combined spot was musical brilliance with Paul, who has spent his life
as a professional pianist and singer, demonstrating that there is no
substitute for talent. Vic’s songwriting and performance is always a delight.
Coupling their songwriting talents, the performance rushed by and we hope we
see them both individually and as a duo again. |
Many thanks to the staff and volunteers
from the SMAC who make our exceptional audience so welcome. |

6 ACTS – 4
SONGS
Last time at the SMAC we had not only 6
Acts performing 4 songs each but a real treat with Host and M/C Greg Camburn
performing two exceptional tunes. So many of our performers are gracing us
with original songs that we are fast becoming the go to place for original
music.

DOUBLE
HEADLINE SHOWCASE
One of the real treats at the moment is
that we are able to run Double Headline Showcases when we can invite two
groups of musicians to perform in one evening and offer a real diversity of
genre and offer a substantial set for them to Showcase their talents. Last time we were able to bring two very
diverse groups of players but with an underlying theme of excellence to the
stage at the SMAC as well as having a list of fine players to support them We were delighted to welcome back Cut the
Mustard and the Big Buch Band, both of whom we have welcomed in the past and
continue with the diverse and highly entertaining musical evenings
|
6 Acts – 4 Songs
|
I keep saying that the
6 x 4 evenings are getting better and better. Which is easy to say but can be
hard to prove. Its only when we get the comments from not only the audience
but the players as well, regarding the quality of the music on show last
time. Every single act was at the top of their game and played wonderful
music all around. |
|
|
|
|
Shorelines We opened the
evening with Shorelines appearing as a 6 piece band with a new guitarist and
a stand in singer. But no matter, their repertoire of reimagined classics is
as sound and musically pleasing as it could be. They have that close harmony
and musical talent that makes the set go oh too fast |
|
Peter Crossley Northern Exile Peter
Crossley has been “Down Souf” for a while and when he is not playing solo he
can be found doing all sorts of things with a fiddle and Pat Crilly. However,
when Peter plays as a solo artist with just his voice and guitar he is one
heck of a performer. His songs hit home with a laser like focus and when he
sings a cover he puts a new edge to it. A fantastic set. |
|
||
|
|
Vic Lennard Vic is becoming a
most welcome regular player at the Club. He always has a story to tell and a
song to sing. His experience is reflected in his songs and his songs reflect
his life and experience. He has long experience in the music industry and
this reflects in the quality of his songs and his performance is always
polished and professional. He answers the questions as to what he is
eloquently. Is he a poet? A songwriter? A Social Campaigner? A Revolutionary?
The answer is yes, all of them. |
|
|
One after 909 Colin and James
Frid are a father and son duo who specialise in being exceptional at delivering
music. Colin has been one of our regular performers but when coupled with
James’ exceptional guitar work they deliver classic songs in a brilliant
manner. Last time they produced exactly what was expected. A cracking set of,
as is usual, 50% Beatles. Colins fine voice as ever brings a level of harmony
and calm whilst James retained his position as one of the premier lead
guitarists in the area. |
|
|
|
|
The Valaitis
Brothers It is a very long
time since we last saw and heard the Valaitis Brothers at the Acoustic Club.
The last time they appeared, according to St Delboy of Peckham, “Knocked ‘em
bandy” with their performance. As they said, this was their first performance
for ages and thought they would like to come back to where is all started for
them. It was great to welcome them back and their original music has
developed beyond compare. Their maturity as song writers and performers is
evident from their first chord to the last. A terrific set and looking
forward to welcoming them back for a longer set soon. |
|
|
Jay Williams Jay Williams is one
artists who has grown and developed over the years right in front of our
eyes. That development is now at the point where he is up there with the very
best. He is adding musical strings to his bow by expanding into piano but his song writing is developing at
lightning speed to exceptional. Closing the evening of fantastic music, his
set was a triumph. His debut EP will
be out soon and we will feature this when it becomes available. |

Westwood Ho! and Clark and
Johnson
Back from the wonderful evening
at the Belgian Brewer where the lovely audience raised over £550 in aid of St
Claire Hospice in memory of Dave Denny, we returned to the SMAC for a Double
Headline evening with the glorious Westwood Ho! and Clark and
Johnson. We were also blessed with two supporting acts The Archduke
(introducing his new persona was Tom Dulieu) and the long-time friend of the
Club, and for a couple of years the person who ran the Acoustic Club, Jess
Brett. |
|
|
|
Westwood Ho! The band was making their debut at the club and
it has to be said despite it being a long way from Enfield and it has taken
them a while to visit. It is bit of a
lucky lottery as to who and what instruments make up the Band on the nights
they play as Westwood Ho! are described as a collective, but their ethos is
the same. They write the vast majority of their music and then form and
develop them into well rounded songs that can be performed by the collection
of players that go to make up the band. Last time we saw
them as a 4 piece and what a performance. New music is always a delight and
when the music and songs are good enough, the music will demand and retain
the attention. It is a fair reflection that the band really captured the
audience and held them enthralled with not only their highly individual
performance as well as the anecdotes that linked the performance brilliantly.
Many thanks guys. A belting set. |
|
|
|
Clark and Johnson. Tony and Karen
have been playing to audiences around the country for more years than can be
reliably remembered and doing it with a panache and verve that marks them
stand out from. Karen has one of those delightful voices that can turn on a
sixpence from traditional folk music to re-imagined hits and popular songs
from a number of decades. Tony is a master of his trade, not only providing
an exquisite accompaniment on guitar and bouzouki as well as backing vocals.
Sometimes he takes the lead, but it matters not, their music is delightful
and always keeps the audience spell bound with their stories especially when
they venture into original music which is a revelation. As ever, a
terrifically accomplished set with so many highlights it was embarrassingly
good. Thanks and see you soon. |
|
|
Jess Brett Due to her other
commitments, we have not seen or heard Jess performing for a while. Two
rapidily growing children, a change of town and a new business venture have
all conspired to reduced her time available to dedicate to performing.
However, Jess returned to the Acoustic Club and what a cracking performance
it was She still plays and sings with authenticity and manages to pick just
the right song for the occasion. |
The Archduke The Archduke is the
new persona for Tome Dulieu and he brought with him his new songs. A new way
forward with different musical influences has resulted in a great new single
and a new album in the background bring a new offering from him. It was a
welcome return and re-enforced his place in local music, at the top table |
|
Many thanks to all our players for a superb
evening, the Staff of the SMAC for making everyone so welcome and of course
the audience for coming out on a wet night and fully supporting live music. |

BLUES NIGHT
AT THE BELGIAN
BREWER
In Memory
of Dave Denny
In aid of
St Clare Hospice
Last time at the Acoustic Club we had a
very special night remembering the wonderful man who was Dave Denny. When we planned this evening, we liaised
with Dave’s family to make sure it was a fitting tribute to the man who was a
husband, father, grandad, uncle and friend. Added to this was a talent and a
knowledge for The Blues. Dave loved the Blues, and this was evident in every
bit of music he played. Its fair to say that he was much loved and
well missed by all those people who listened, joined in and helped him in his
quest to raise money for St Clare Hospice, which he did with his usual
outstanding success. |
“Mine is bigger than
yours and
I have more strings
too!!!”
Dave with lifelong
buddy Jeff Carpenter
A packed evening of players and an equally
packed audience arrived with hope and joy for a tremendous evening to
celebrate the life and music of a great friend and Blues Mastermind Dave
Denny. We had a full evening of over 2½ hours of
live music – not all the Blues – but an lot!! Our list of players were all good friends
of Dave but one of the real highlights was the performance of The Fog who
haven’t played since 2020.
|
||||||||||||||||
The evening was an
outstanding success with a packed venue all keen to listen to the music and
sample the Belgian Brewers fantastic range of authentic Belian Beers. Over all we raised
£595 from ticket sales and contributions from the sale of Blues CD’s that
came from Dave extensive collection. This has been donated to St Clare
Hospice. Thanks to everyone who supported us for such a magnificent support. One final thought
must go to Dave’s family. They have asked us to pass on their thanks to
everyone who came and supported the Memory of Dave Denny. |

6 ACTS
– 4 SONGS
It is a wonderful thing about having so
many great local musicians is that we get to opportunity to Showcase their
talents in a formal gig with great sound curtesy of Jay Warner of the SMAC
and a highly appreciative audience. Our 6 Act evening really are a terrific
opportunity to hear a diverse and stunning range of talent. In fairness, we were delighted to welcome a
group of musicians who interchange between groups and duos who explore so
many genres. We were delighted to welcome Ali Cossor
and Brian Harvey who regaled us with an outstanding display of musical
dexterity on various musical arrangements and instruments. With originals and
covers they opened the evening in grand style. |
|
Ali Cossor and Brian Harvey |
D ‘n A |
After Ali and Brian, there was a quick
reshuffle and Ali stayed on and was joined by Dave Oxley as DnA. A
change of personnel and a change of mood. Dave and Ali specialise in close
harmonies putting new life into classics. Not quite the American Songbook but
a tremendous set of delightful music. Quite frankly the comparison with pub pool
was inescapable as then Dave stayed on and was joined by Brian Harvey and
Mark Gamon for a stripped down set as Sky West. As a band, Sky West
are an originals band with the very occasional cover, but whatever their
choice, they perform with a verve and gusto that stands as a testament to
their prodigious musical talent. As an opening hour, Brian, Ali, Dave and
Mark gave us delightful musical miscellany to the evening. |
|
Sky West |
Martin Day |
We then welcomed the effervescent Martin Day to the stage. Martin is
the traditional singer songwriter and he delivered his usual fast paced set
of self-penned songs that had the audience fully engaged. Next up were a trio we are always happy to
welcome back the Acoustic Club Stage. Paul, Si and Verna are rapidly
becoming a wake-up band. The message is, Wake Up, this is a terrific group!!
Over the years Paul has appeared at the Acoustic Club and a couple of years
ago started combining with Si on bass. About a year ago Verna (Of Why Not
fame) joined as vocalist and with a few rehearsals it was clear the
combination of their talent results in a performance that is much greater
than the sum of the constituent parts. That is the rule for all the great
bands – think of the Beatles before Ringo. What a great set. |
|
Paul, Si and Verna |
Runaway Jukebox |
Our closing act was Runaway Jukebox.
We saw them a little while ago where they lived up to their name and gave us
a belting set of covers. This time, they said they were moving away from
covers and into originals and they wanted to see how it goes. Well guys it
was brilliant. They gave us 4 originals that fully developed and showcased
their individual performances which was a fantastic closing to the evening. Many thanks to all our players for a superb
evening, the Staff of the SMAC for making everyone so welcome and of course
the audience for coming out on a wet night and fully supporting live music. |

Tom Ryder
and Joe Hazell
With the
Young
Players
There are times when it seems impossible to
actually remember a better night of music, but last time was one of those
special moments in the twenty odd years of the Acoustic Club. |
Hello Acoustic Clubbers With a headline showcase of Joe Hazell and
Tom Ryder as well as a full list of young players we were treated to a
brilliant evening of music. It was such a delight to see and hear Tom Ryder
back on a stage, where he belongs, performing songs that he and Joe have
perfected over the years. It must be acknowledged that our young players were
exceptional. They are a collection of rising stars who have performed over
several years with their collective musical talent growing and developing
beyond measure. It was also a pleasure to welcome the emerging talent of Max
Laverne for the first time. Of course. It is a real bonus for them all
to have role models of Joe and Tom both of whom started their musical
journeys on the same stage as they have. Tom Ryder and Joe Hazell It is no secret that Tom has not been well recently, so it
was a real treat of all his family, friends and everyone to welcome him back
to the Acoustic Club sharing the stage with his life long friend and
collaborator Joe. These guys have been playing the Acoustic Club for longer
than anyone else other than Drew Bonnington and Keef Jackman the founders of
the club. They have taken enormous strides over the years not only as
consummate musicians and writers but as people. They started as two friends
at school practicing everyday in the music room and started playing in many
guises. Solo performances, The Kazans, Koasis and then off in to various
duo’s and combos along the way. Through the last 20 odd years they have
remained the most loyal of friends and the most reliable of performers. Tom
is an accomplished journalist as well as the founder of Retune and Joe has
become a highly sought after session guitarist, member of one of the best
Rolling Stone Tribute Bands as well as his most recent band The Exile Club.
However, it takes very little persuasion to get them together to perform as a
duo. Suffice to say their set was a delight, with their individual take on
classics, as well as their own songs which are outstanding. Their set was a tribute to their past and their future and
passed all too quickly. A hearty welcome back to Tom. It was a delight to hear you
play and perform again. |
Our support player list a real musical miscellany
demonstrating that Stortford has no fears when looking towards the future of
live music. We were delighted to welcome back Hanako Ward, India
Purdy supported by her dad on guitar, Alessandra Freeston, Archie
Eastlake and Ronnie Scott, Danny McCarthy and first time
player Max Lavergne. |
HANAKO INDIA ALESSANDRA

ARCHIE
& RONNIE DANNY MAX Many thanks to Jay for the Sound
management, the staff of the South Mill Arts Centre of looking after us so
well and the Management of the SMA for the new stage, in use for the first
time and had the desired effect – the people at the bar could see the players!!. |

CLEAN SNEAK
What a glorious evening of brilliant live
music at the BELGIAN BREWER. A terrific array of varied talent topped
off with a fantastic hour long spot with the ever impressive CLEAN SNEAK. |
Hello Acoustic Clubbers With a hearty welcome from Nick and his team at the Belgian
Brewer and the promise of superb music, the first day of spring brought a
relatively balmy evening and some pretty hot music. Our support players were
a fine mixture of styles and genres and our headline showcase too hot to
trot!! CLEAN SNEAK are a highly experienced band of great friends who play to
enjoy and enjoy to entertain. Their set was heavily weighted with blues and
there is a reason that they brought a substantial and enthusiastic band of
loyal supporters. By the end of the evening, they had markedly increased that
following!! With real commitment they gave us a fine selection of blues
standards and classics featuring T Bone Walters, BB King and so many more
legends. As promised it was a truly an eclectic mix of material encompasses
50’s swing right through Chicago and Delta Blues and on to their take on more
up to date material as well as the odd R’n’B and acoustic roots classic. |
Our support player list was a shorter than normal but we
enjoyed a quite varied list of performances from Bill Tarran – Host
and M/C, Richard
Holder, Jo Clack, Kevin Johnson
and Jonny Brewer |
Many thanks to Nick and the staff of the Belgian Brewer for
such a great venue and even better beer! |

6 ACTS
– 4 SONGS
Last time we were delighted to welcome back
some friends to the Acoustic Club stage. The first problem we had to deal
with was Paul Boothwas unable to play because he lost his voice and there
were plans afoot but these got changed when we started. A very happy bonus
occurred as one of our audience was blues legend Steve Ingrey and without too
much prompting he agreed to take the spot. Get well soon Paul and we are
looking forward to welcoming back real soon. So on with the music, and what a great
night it was!!!

M G Boulter
It was a delight to
welcome back to the Club MG Boulter along with his accompanying bass
player Paul for another fantastic evening of a very superior class of live
acoustic music |
|
It was a delight to
welcome MG back to the Acoustic Club. It is always a delight when we were
able to sit down and listen to his fantastic songs, that are original,
targeted, personal and just downright excellent. He makes no apology for
singing about where he lives, along the estuary northern coast of the Thames
in the musical hotspot of Westcliffe/Southend. Accompanied by his good friend
and fantastic bassist Paul, the 45 minute set literally flew by and before we
knew it we were on the encore which was not only well deserved but eagerly
anticipated by the large and appreciative audience. Many thanks to Matt
and Paul for such an original and entrancing set. MG will be releasing his
new CD in the summer and we will review it and let those who have been
converted to the Southend Sound know how to get a copy. We were delighted to
welcome a fantastic group of supporting musicians. Many thanks must go
to Paul Booth, Hanako Ward, Stuart Nicholson, John McCarthy and we
were treated to a real added bonus with an extra special 4 song set from Pat Crilly and Greg Camburn. Many thanks to all the very large audience who turned up on
a foul night and were rewarded with some fantastic music. Thanks also go Jay for great sound and to the staff of the
SMA who make the evening seamless |
6 Acts
4 Songs
What a wonderful night we had last time at the Acoustic
Club. Our 6 acts format that gives the players a little more time than the
usual floor spot and allows them to expand their repertoire and to share new
songs as well as theirs and our favourites. Last time we were delighted to welcome back a couple of
favourite acts as well as 2 new ones. |
|
Wild Roses We were delighted to welcome back Wild Roses to
the Acoustic Club. Last time they came as complete unknowns but after last
year’s first time set expectations were quite high. Quite frankly they exceeded
expectations and gave a fantastic set that was full of expression and just
great quality music |
|
|
Vic Lennard Vic is one of those players who everyone looks
forward to and armed with his new guitar he did not disappoint. Vic will
switch from a self penned song with a back story that is compelling to an
original version of a familiar cover in the blink of an eye. As ever de gave
us a professional set that was built on his long experience and cracking
talent |
Lily Martin Lily has many strings to her bow and that is not
limited to a great stage presence, a voice that can flip between haunting to
soulful blues and all the way to her own fantastic songs. Last time she
demonstrated again that she can work with others and produce wonderful music
and she was accompanied by Dan Titus on guitar. |
|
|
Faradena & Julian Woods Faradena Afifi is a gifted musician. She excels
on violin but he collaboration with Julian Woods has given a new direction
and new repertoire for her to explore. HE set was compelling as she
alternated between keyboards and pizzicato violin and some haunting melodies,
fantastic vocals topped off with a solid and subtle bass from Julian. |
Guy Pearson In the introduction I did for Guy last time was
very nearly right, but the thing I missed out is that he is a near neighbour
of the SMA and lives about as close as you can be without incurring parking
charges. Guys set was a full bodied affair and it is a wonder that we have
not heard of him before. A cracking set and we look forward to more in the
future. |
|
|
Elinor Jackson & Dan Titus Elinor Jackson and Dan Titus are a very much accomplished
duo. Elinor if fulfilling the promise she has shown over the past few years and
developing into a highly accomplished singer. Dan is one of those players who
appears to have been around ages and can always be relied upon to produce
great songs and great covers. Combined they have a style that is just a great
idea. The set was a triumph. |
Many thanks to all the very large audience who turned up on a foul
night and were rewarded with some fantastic music. Thanks also go to the staff of the SMA who make the evening seamless |

DOUBLE
HEADLINE SHOWCASE
Last time at the
Acoustic Club we were delighted to open the new year at our new main venue
with a Double Headline Showcase featuring Rhys Wilson and Runaway Jukebox. Rhys
Wilson Rhys Wilson is one of
those players that is unmissable. He has many strings to his bow in that he
plays with so many different bands and combinations that it is a bit of a
special treat to find him performing a solo set. Last time, as ever, he
did not disappoint. His set was the perfect description of a Rhys Gig. He is
a fantastic writer with an eclectic list of themes and subjects and he brings
a vast experience of performing and enthralling audiences. His set was enthusiastically
received and his latest album was available to get a permanent reminder of
what a damn fine performer he is. Many thanks for a great headline spot and
looking forward to the next time. |
|
Runaway
Jukebox Runaway Jukebox are a
band who mix popular classics with the occasional self penned song. To be
honest this is not a novel formula but what they are is a great example of
what can be achieved if three people put their mind to providing top quality
entertainment in the form of non-stop music. They are a stunning trio and as
a counterpoint to Rhys, they are the perfect foil. They are really, really
good at playing and singing and created such a great feeling around the large
audience and induced foot tapping and smile inducing music. They are a great
Good Time Band and lets hope we see them again soon. |
Many thanks to
everyone who supported us with support spots. It is always a please to
welcome and listen to Richard Holder, The Maystones, Mike
Johnson and Colin Frid. |
Many thanks are due to
Jay and the staff at the South Mill Arts Centre for theirs great work on the
mixing desk ensuring all players had the very best of sound as well as making
sure the SMAC is a welcoming and friendly environment |
